The coinclp package is licensed under the MIT licence, as recorded in the
License field of DESCRIPTION and the LICENSE file. MIT was chosen because it
is compatible both with the Eclipse Public License of COIN-OR Clp, which this
package links against, and with the GNU General Public License of the R
packages that build on this one.

coinclp links against COIN-OR Clp, a separate work distributed under the
Eclipse Public License 2.0 by the COIN-OR Foundation and contributors
<https://github.com/coin-or/Clp>. The source package contains no part of
Clp; it must be installed on the system before coinclp is built.

Binary builds are a different matter. The Clp libraries are static, so a
compiled coinclp shared object contains Clp object code, and any binary
distribution of this package -- including the Windows and macOS binaries
built by CRAN -- carries that code under the Eclipse Public License 2.0.
Its terms are at <https://www.eclipse.org/legal/epl-2.0/>, and the
corresponding source is available from the COIN-OR project at
<https://github.com/coin-or/Clp>.

The compatibility layer in R/compat-clpAPI.R reproduces the function names
and argument names of the clpAPI package by Gabriel Gelius-Dietrich, which
was distributed under the GNU General Public License version 3, so that code
written against clpAPI keeps working. No code from clpAPI is used; the
implementation here is independent.
